We spent yesterday learning about microscopes and today students did a laboratory activity with the microscopes. The assignments for the microscopes were: Microscope History, Microscope Labeling and Questions and a microscope lab. Students have been given class time to research a famous scientist. They are going to create a tombstone with facts about a famous scientist. These tombstones will be featured in the 7th grade bunker for Halloween. The research portion is due on Tuesday, October 18. The actual tombstone is due on October 27. More information can be found online in your child's google classroom.
Students took notes on what dichotomous keys are, they worked through a dichotomous key of smileys, and then they created a dichotomous key with aliens.

Students did a notebook check in class. Students watched a BrainPop video on classification of living organisms. Students made a mnemonic for the levels of classification. That assignment can be found here. Thursday, there was a substitute in science. Students read an article about the discovery of the giant, woolly rat and the difficulties in classifying it. There were questions that went with the article.
